Genesee County Talking is Teaching offers materials and activities that are easy, everyday ways to boost children’s brain power and expand their vocabulary through conversation. Genesee County Talking is Teaching is an initiative of the Great Start Collaborative.

The research is clear: the brain develops more rapidly in the first few years of life than at any other time in life. Understanding lots of words makes all learning easier in the future.

Talking is Teaching focuses on “making small moments BIG.” Whether at home folding laundry, changing diapers, watching TV, or going for a walk, there are so many little things we can all do to help children become successful readers and learners!

Music notesWhen we talk, read, and sing with children from the time they are born we are helping them build their brains. Small moments of connection by talking, reading, or singing to little ones is a big deal! Parents are their child's First Teacher. A parent or caregiver’s voice, face, and loving touch means the most to children.
