Our Purpose

Support for Genesee County Families

The Great Start Collaborative is set to create a coordinated community system of support where all Genesee County families know about and have access to the services they need to ensure that children meet Michigan’s four Early Childhood Outcomes.

  1. Children are born healthy.

  2. Children are healthy, thriving, and developmentally on track from birth to third grade.

  3. Children are developmentally ready to succeed in school at the time of school entry.

  4. Children are prepared to succeed in fourth grade and beyond by reading proficiently by the end of third grade.

The Genesee County Great Start Collaborative (GSC) is a partnership of local organizations and families who are working to improve our early childhood system for every family in the community.

GSC Community Mission

To develop an informed community through creating awareness of the importance of language acquisition and literacy from birth to age five through collaboration, community action, and increasing literacy experiences.

GSC Community Vision

All children are ready to succeed in literacy at the time of school entry and are reading proficiently by the end of third grade.

The Genesee Great Start Collaborative and Great Start Families Coalition is funded through a grant provided by the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential.
